Formulating treatment of major psychiatric disorders: algorithm targets the dominantly affected brain cell-types

چکیده
Abstract Background Pharmacotherapy for most psychiatric conditions was developed from serendipitous observations of benefit drugs prescribed different reasons. An algorithmic approach to formulating pharmacotherapy is proposed, based upon which combination changed activities by brain cell-types dominant any particular condition, because those contain and surrogate genetic, metabolic environmental information, that has affected their function. The algorithm performs functions some or all the several available drugs: clemastine, dantrolene, erythropoietin, fingolimod, fluoxetine, lithium, memantine, minocycline, pioglitazone, piracetam, riluzole Procedures/findings Bipolar disorder, major depressive schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, post-traumatic stress illustrate algorithm; them, literature reviews show no single altered accounts cases; but they identify, each occurs frequently, i.e., dominates, as compared with other possible combinations. Knowing in a permits formulation therapy combinations taken above list. percentage patients who might therapy, depends frequency condition. Conclusions cell types conditions, an algorithmically formulated, rationally-based treatment. Different studies same condition often produce discrepant results; be correct, identical clinical phenotypes result impaired cell-types, thus producing results. Clinical trials would validate both proposed concept choice drugs.

DISC1 Pathway in Brain Development: Exploring Therapeutic Targets for Major Psychiatric Disorders
Genetic risk factors for major psychiatric disorders play key roles in neurodevelopment. Thus, exploring the molecular pathways of risk genes is important not only for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying brain development, but also to decipher how genetic disturbances affect brain maturation and functioning relevant to major mental illnesses. During the last decade, there has been...
متن کاملTreatment of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders with Deep Brain Stimulation Raising Hopes and Future Challenges
The technology of Neural Stimulation in recent years has become the focus of the research and treatment, although it has been around for many years. The potential use of stimulating the brain and nerves ranges from the spinal cord stimulation to the implantations of cochlear and bionic eyes with a large discrepancy between the clinical readiness for these various uses. Electrical high-frequency...
متن کاملEDITORIAL New Targets of Medical Treatment in Psychiatric Disorders
A broader palette of safe and better-tolerated agents is available for treating people suffering from chronic schizophrenia, depressive disorders, anxiety disorder, autism spectrum disorders. However, current medical treatments are still only partially effective, and highly-prevalent psychiatric disorders continue to represent a huge personal and socio-economic burden. Most pharmacological agen...
متن کاملBrain stimulation for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW There has been a resurgence of interest in brain stimulation techniques as therapies for psychiatric disorders. Various names are used for this class of treatments: neuromodulation, somatic therapies, brain stimulation techniques. The methods in this class range from non-invasive (transcranial magnetic stimulation) to invasive brain surgery (deep brain stimulation). RECENT F...
